THE AIM
We as a team of 4 currently serving and 1 ex Royal Marines Mountain Leaders intend to raise as much awareness of the issues, struggles and difficulties our wounded Servicemen and their families face when they begin to try and re-build their lives.
The problem is huge, constantly a battle and will continue to be for many years ahead for many hundreds of servicemen.
We will help the service community as well as the public learn about these issues and try our best to educate as many people as we can along our travels in order to grow the support country wide.
Money will always help these situations but it is not the be all and end all, the real support lies in the passion and understanding of the difficulties faced and thinking to yourself, “What can I do to Help”
OUR CHALLENGE
As a team we will Roller Ski from John O Groats to Lands end Non Stop and in only 10 days. This will be a huge undertaking for the team which will see us covering well over 1000 miles or around 1664 Km (Hence our title and the year the Royal Marines was formed). The 5 team members will be working in 4 Hour shifts on the roller skis, having to covering over 20 miles each time, they will do this every day for 10 days.
The Challenge will start on 20 September 11 from John O Groats and will finish on the morning of 30 September 11 at Lands End. The finish will be celebrated with an end of Ski Bash in the Village of St Just (Anyone will be welcome to join us).
During our Ski we will be spreading our message and raising as much awareness to as many people as possible. Our route is much longer than the normal John O Groats to Lands End due to the fact that we are diverting into many of the major towns and cities along the way in order to set up our PR stance, talk to the public and service families and to ask for your support in any way. Our route will be going through Arbroath, Newcastle, Liverpool, Bristol, Taunton, Honiton(home of the Baton) Exeter, Plymouth plus a few more yet to be announced, as well as various schools and colleges we already have on board supporting us. The route will be available in due course for you to follow on this website. Please come out and support us if we are in your area, by supporting us you are supporting our Troops.
OUR CHARITIES
There is a tab at the top of the page in order to read in more detail our charities. In brief outline we are raising funds, awareness and support for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (HOW) www.rmctf.org who have launched a campaign to raise £6 Million pounds by the 350th birthday of the Royal Marines in October 2014. Our other charity is the Baton www.thebaton.co.uk which works tirelessly trying to spread a message of support and thanks to all servicemen and families both past and present. Please look at our Charities tab to fully understand what they do and when you have time go to their own individual websites to find out more.

OUR SUPPORT
We have already had many offers of support from many walks of life and for this we are hugely grateful. We have once again created a tab at the top of the page dedicated to our sponsors and supporters, this will be constantly updated as new people come on board. Of particular note is a huge degree of thanks to Tom at Eoroski www.crosscountryskis.co.uk or www.rollerskiing.co.uk who have very kindly provided us with all our equipment including the Skike Roller Ski in order for us to train, get fit and ultimately give us the best chance of success. If you have any interest in this great sport then visit his website or get in touch with Tom who will be delighted to get you going.
